Red-hot Raudondvaris Hoptrans face early obstacles at FIBA 3x3 World Tour Ulaanbaatar Masters 2024

ULAANBAATAR (Mongolia) - After their spectacular triumph in Marseille, Raudondvaris Hoptrans(LTU) won't have time to bask in glory as they prepare for the FIBA 3x3 Ulaanbaatar Masters on June 8-9.

The lethal Lithuanians were on target and took out the second Masters of the season, but have to back up quickly as the World Tour returns to Asia.

They will be aiming for back-to-back titles, but No.5 Lausanne (SUI) loom as a major obstacle in a Pool D blockbuster.

The new-look Swiss have been in strong form on the pro circuit with the addition of prized recruit Malik Hluchoweckyj taking them to a new level.

Zavkhan SAINSCORE(MGL) won't merely be a third wheel because they've been in strong form on the pro circuit with Bail Jung proving to be a walking bucket.

Top seed UbHuishan NE(SRB) are in the unusual position of being title-less so far on the World Tour after they fell in the quarters in Marseille.

But the Serbs will get a huge lift with No.1 ranked player Strahinja Stojacic returning and he will share the half-court with his older sibling Stefan in what should be an emotional moment for the legendary brothers.

Ub are in a tricky Pool A featuring dangerous Japanese teams UtsunomiyaBREX EXE(JPN) and Saitama ALPHAS EXE(JPN).

No.2 seed Miami (USA) fell back to earth in Marseille after their early season statement at the Utsunomiya Opener. They'll be out for revenge, especially superstar Jimmy Fredette who was unusually cold in Marseille.

The Americans will be the hot favorite in Pool B, with Beijing (CHN) and Sansar (MGL) likely to be competing for the second spot and a place into the knockouts.

There will be much anticipation over a heavyweight Pool C clash between No.3 seed Amsterdam (NED) and hometown heroes Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy(MGL).

The Dutch Masters will be aiming to shrug off a quarter-final exit in Marseille and they face an early litmus test against Ulaanbaatar, who should be inspired by their 3x3 crazy fans.

Even though Amsterdam did not go deep in Marseille, Worthy de Jong once again exploded on the half-court and he won't have cooled off by the time he arrives in Ulaanbaatar.

He has a fascinating individual match-up with Dulguun Enkhbat, who is in the GOAT defender debate.

Kandava Turiba(LAT) won't be a pushover because Francis Lacis and Zigmars Raimo are the new big things in Latvian 3x3.
